Melissa with Alexander Skarsgard at Vanity Fair Belvedere Red Party During TIFF 2011
Vampires don’t do well with flash; we’re not sure what that says about me. During this past week’s TIFF festivities, I ran into True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard at the Vanity Fair Belvedere Red Party. He was very gracious and smartly dressed in a short navy double breasted blazer, trim pants and even trimmer black shirt (yes, you can mix black and navy). Meeting Alexander made up for the fact that I had just missed Clooney, he was leaving as I walked into the back patio of Scarpetta at The Thompson. I debated tackling him, but wasn’t sure I’d be able to do that long of a leap….
I had a chance to actually see some of the gala movies this time around at Roy Thompson Hall. Killer Elite with Clive Owen, Jason Statham and Robert De Niro, and A Dangerous Method by David Cronenberg with Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley and Michael Fassbender. I have to say that I was very surprised to see a lot of empty seats; not just seats but rows that were for corporate sponsors who never bothered to show up. If TIFF is suppose to be for the people, how come the hundreds of people outside weren’t allowed in to fill the seats up for a full house?
On another note, all the stars were at the galas and the guys looked hot! Slim suits, trim pants, shorter jackets… it’s about time that the men look as good (if not better) than the ladies. The only exception was De Niro who was wearing a rumpled polo, equally rumpled jacket, baggy jeans and running shoes, but I guess if you are as big a star as De Niro you can dress however you want.
Reviews? Killer Elite was action packed, Clive Owen was amazing but I would have liked more of the political back story of the film since it was suppose to be based on a true story. A Dangerous Method was beautifully shot; Keira Knightly was great but it was so not your typical Cronenberg film. Very intellectual and considering it was about Freud and Jung, not a psychological thiller (and no naked sauna fight scene).
I did have great seats though, right beside the stars.
Sarah Gadon, Kiera Knightly and David Cronenberg.
